AUK Request - Online forum development -

Scott C-R July 18, 2019 10:54

Good Morning.

As promised, we want you to have more of an input to the development of the online forums, Therefore, this is the first post from Adoption UK to ask what you think, and to gather your thoughts and feelings.

The first is a fairly simple one, and it is:

We would like to reinstall the option for users to "like" posts from others. We know that there has been discussion in the past about the best way around this. Please tell us which options you would prefer, and not making any assumptions, if could be as simple as four options: like/love/dislike/cry

Please leave your comments and thoughts on this below. The team at Adoption UK want to hear from you, and we are very excited to be asking you the first of many online forum development questions!

This topic will be closed to further comments on Monday 22nd July 2019 at 5pm!

Thank you for your input!

Scott

Great... think love/like obvious but often that has not been appropriate in the past so deffo dislike/cry a brill idea should cover most bases tbh x

? moo ?

Yes I like cry too - also support maybe? Though obviously don't want too many! I think before the use of "vote" was objected to because it felt as if there was a competitive element in responding and wasn't clear what you (the person clicking) was actually saying. But like/love obviously needed too

Think we all need the "sad" button (maybe better than "cry"?). Glad we are all on the same line of thinking! Hopefully get a few more responses! ?

I quite like the 'laugh' and 'wow' emoji faces they use on Facebook now - the 'wow' in particular is so versatile!

Maybe a range of emoji faces is the answer?

I think ??? as well as a like. Not keen on a dislike button - that’ll appear quite negative. I think - like, love, applaud possibly, sad for when things are going wrong. An angry one has its place for when we have to deal with ignorance and stupidity, provided it’s used in the right context.

It would be good to be able to like posts without logging in, to give a bit of moral support when you haven't got much time or don't have specific experience for a written post.

Wanted to like this earlier ... then remembered I wasn’t logged in ?

I think the most difficult thing to get right is where people are really in dire straights or there has been a significant event. I'm thinking in particular about the death of Lily's daughter which really did highlight how inappropriate vote/like/dislike were..

Personally I would go for a small number of emojis, maybe 3 or 4

I agree not too many as think it ends up being complicated when we just want to show we support the person. But we definitely need a like or love, sad, laughing and maybe a wow. I would also like to see if we could like etc without having to log in

I’m glad that we all appear to be on the same lines with this! Definitely would like to try and get it right first time!

I would go for three: like, sad, angry

I think like and love are too similar to make them two buttons and I would keep it as simple as possible. I would prefer emojis or icons to words.

Like Serrakunda says, I’m not sure if like/dislikes emojis are helpful but like others say, maybe love, “I’m with you” type of thing or “thinking about you” ones might be more meaningful.
